The Virginia Council of Chapters of the Military Officers Association of America (VCOC / MOAA) - also referred to as simply "VCOC" – is an affiliation of MOAA chapters throughout Virginia. There are 18 MOAA chapters and 40,000 MOAA members in Virginia. Roughly ten percent of Virginia MOAA members are also members of a local chapter. Many MOAA members also serve in leadership positions on Virginia boards, commissions and councils e.g. Joint Leadership Council and in other veterans' organizations such as American Legion, Military Order of Purple Heart etc The VCOC works at the state level to further the goals of national MOAA and the local chapters.
The VCOC meets quarterly, usually at or near Fort Lee. A Chapter "VCOC Rep" is designated by each affiliated chapter. The chapter President, VCOC Rep, Legislative Rep, Auxiliary Liaison and other interested leaders of Virginia chapters of MOAA are all welcome at VCOC meetings or events.
The VCOC holds two important legislative events each year: "Storming the state capitol" (or "Day at the Virginia General Assembly") in Richmond in January (see state legislative section) and a luncheon with Virginia's 13 member congressional delegation in March or April (see national legislative section).
The VCOC publishes a quarterly newsletter, titled The Council Crier. The electronic version is posted on this website. If you have questions about the VCOC, please contact an individual on the contact list (click on the main menu item "contacts" at left).
For info about a Virginia Chapter - see the Chapter web page (main section).
Virginia Chapter & VCOC leaders may also access the Directory in the contacts section (using a pre-determined user name and password).

ABOUT THE VCOC WEBSITE: This VCOC website was first established in January 2006, and is still maintained using a Network Solutions hosting package (paid for by the VCOC), with volunteer labor (unpaid) to create and update the website. Format Design was changed in January 2008. Password Protected portion was added January 2009 to accomodate Directory. Web Manager (not a master) from Jan 2006 through now is Maj Melva Mallison, USAF, Ret, of Newport News Virginia. Network solutions package was renewed only through end of 2010 in case the VCOC decides to make a change along with the goal of establishing a comprehensive web-based legislative alert system (that tracks which legislators are contacted how many times).
