Rep. Tom Perriello and Chairman Bob Filner to Meet with 5th District Veterans
All 5th District Veterans invited to join Congressmen for Town Hall Meeting on Veterans’ Issues
Rustburg, VA—Congressman Tom Perriello will host Congressman Bob Filner, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, for events with 5th District veterans this Friday, August 27, 2010. The Congressmen will visit with staff and veterans during a tour of the Lynchburg Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) for veterans, and Rep. Perriello will host Chairman Filner for a Veterans’ Town Hall Meeting with members of Rep. Perriello’s 5th District Veterans Advisory Committee. All 5th District veterans are invited to attend and participate in the meeting from 4:30 to 5:30 PM at the Campbell County Historic Courthouse in Rustburg.
“Serving with Chairman Filner on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is a tremendous honor and has been one of the true pleasures of my time in Congress. While partisan politics seems to seep into everything we do, doing right by our veterans remains one of the few goals where there is total agreement,” said Rep. Perriello. “I look forward to hosting Chairman Filner, introducing him to my Advisory Committee, and hearing from veterans on how we in Congress can better meet their needs.”
This will be the fifth meeting of Rep. Perriello’s 5th District Veterans’ Advisory Committee and all 5th District veterans are invited to attend the meeting. Following a brief legislative update from Rep. Perriello and Chairman Filner, they will field questions on veterans’ issues from the Advisory Committee as well as any Veteran who wishes to attend. Previous meetings of Rep. Perriello’s 5th District Veterans Advisory Committee have been held in Danville, Halifax County, and twice in Bedford. Last month he brought the Health Subcommittee of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee to Bedford for a field hearing on the health care needs of rural veterans.
Prior to the Advisory Committee Meeting, Rep. Perriello and Chairman Filner will tour the Lynchburg Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). CBOC’s provide high quality primary, preventive and mental health care services to veterans at locations throughout the country. They are a key part of meeting Rep. Perriello’s goal to bring health care services to the veteran, rather than making the veteran go to the health care.
Rep. Perriello will have staff members Martha Woody (Veterans’ Caseworker) and Ericke Cage (Legislative Counsel and Veterans’ Affairs Committee Staffer) on hand at both events to work with any individual veterans who need assistance.
