COUNCIL PRESIDENTS STORM WASHINGTON DC
As part of MOAA's council presidents storming of DC April 2007, Virginia Council president, Col William (Bill) Flanagan, USA, Retired, met with seven Virginia congresspersons.  Storming with Colonel Flanagan were the MOAA Auxiliary Liaison (of the Mount Vernon Virginia chapter), Margery LeTourneau, and MOAA Board of Directors member, General Michael P.C. Carnes, USAF, Ret.

Congressional members visited were generally very supportive of all three of the MOAA issues. Several of the members indicated they were delaying a commitment on the TRICARE issue until the study was out this summer.
Several wanted to know if the pay raise issue would come up in the normal markup process for the Defense bills, or would have a separate bill. They indicated that MOAA would need to mobilize support in the party leadership and caucuses.

Senator Warner's office was sporting the plaque awarded to him by the Virginia Council of Chapters (VCOC) at their congressional appreciation luncheon in DC March 21st.

We met with Amanda Foster from Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis’s office as the Congresswoman was still on the mend from her recent illness.  Based on last year’s great visit with the Congresswoman, positive comments from Amanda and that  Congresswoman Davis is already signed on as a co-sponsor for TRICARE and paid-up SBP, we believe she will be supportive of MOAA’s issues this year.  / Bill Flanagan, VCOC President
