NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES
2012 112th Congress - 2nd Session
PRIORITY:

Provide Force Structure and Funding to Strengthen the All Volunteer Force

We need a wartime budget!

We need a national solution to petroleum energy problem to assure adequate supply for national defense.

OBJECTIVES:
  ~
Provide a strong base defense budget of at least 5 percent of the GDP for the foreseeable future and implementing defense policies that will provide for a combat-ready total force — active duty, National Guard, and Reserve — that is well-trained and equipped, properly resourced, and mission-ready for sustained combat.
~    Fully authorize and fund the Army for at least 700,000 on active duty status, drawn from the Active Army, the Army National Guard and Army Reserves.  Do not reduce Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy strength from currently authorized levels.
~    Preserve hard gained benefits of the past decades for Active, National Guard, Reserve, and Retired members of the military community in these tough economic times. Give recognition to the unique service and sacrifice of the military. Included are continued support to the Wounded Warrior program, protection for TRICARE, provider reimbursement rate for Medicare/Tricare, and Long term viability of Social Security and Medicare and COLA discipline.
~   End inequity of the Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP)and Dependency & Indemnity (DIC) offset.
~   Improve the Accessibility, Accuracy, Timeless, Quality and Satisfaction of medical care to eligible Veterans

PREVIOUS OBJECTIVES - recent years
2010 - 2011
STRENGTHEN THE ALL VOLUNTEER FORCE

1.  INCREASE THE SIZE OF GROUND FORCES

2.  PREVENT THE EROSION OF TRICARE BENEFITS

3.  HELP THE WIDOWS AND WOUNDED

Our nation is at war and defense is the first duty of national government.  We are in an "era of persistent conflict" and we need a national strategy for the long term violent extremism.  Also the threat of a conventional high intensity war is a real possibility.  We must re-balance our force to meet the full spectrum of potential conflict.  Our defense budget must match our strateby; not the reverse.

We need a wartime budget!  Our country can afford and must devote, a greater share of its resources to national defense.  Past wars have required a larger sacrifice from our nation; this war is no less important.  Our defense budget must be increased to at least 5% of our GDP!  Only the military is bearing the brunt of war; we must quit shortchanging them.  Also, we need a national solution to our energy problem in order to maximize our available defense dollars.

OBJECTIVES APPROVED BY VCOC AT 8 JAN 2010 MEETING.
