Quarterly Newsletter of the
Virginia Council of Chapters (VCOC)
Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)


The Council Crier is published quarterly in March, June, September and December.  Paper copies are mailed to Virginia chapter presidents, VCOC Reps, VCOC Legislative Reps and PAOs if identified on VCOC Directory / Constituent Chapter List, VCOC board members, plus MOAA Chapter & Council Affairs and Legislative departments in Alexandria.  The electronic version - eCrier - is posted on this website in two formats (Word and PDF).  Chapters may use any portion of the newsletter in their own publications or publicity.

Virginia Council of Chapters won MOAA Communication Award for Best Council Legislative Coverage - Print Newsletter - in 2010 (awarded April 2011.  VCOC 2nd VP Melva Mallison is editor of The Council Crier.
In 2011, VCOC received THREE MOAA Communication Awards for 2010 including Best Council Legislative Coverage in print Newsletter. Comm Awards won every year starting with 2009 (for 2008 communications).

The purpose of the VCOC newsletter is to help Virginia chapter leaders.  

INPUT for The Council Crier is due to editor the 10th of the month prior to publication: 10 Feb for March Crier.  10 May for June Crier. 10 Aug for September Crier.   10 Nov for December Crier. Please provide photos and graphics in JPEG format and separate from text documents.  Provide by email if at all possible.

LOGOS:
When using the MOAA shield logo, be sure to use the one with "R" for registered trademark at bottom right, not the old "TM" designation. 
If your chapter won MOAA Communication award or awards please show off with communication award logo on chapter newsletter, website and other publications.  If your chapter won Level of Excellence Award you may want to mention this as well in your newsletter masthead.


 

CHAPTER NEWSLETTERS: 
Each Virginia MOAA Chapter is requested to send at least one copy of each Chapter newsletter to each of the other Virginia chapters, plus one to VCOC President, Vice Presidents and Secretary.  This helps to share info, ideas, and best practices.  Email copies are encouraged to keep printing and mailing cost down.
