KEY LEGISLATIVE DATES
Milestones for our VCOC State Legislative Efforts
2011 GENERAL ASSEMBLY
21 July 2010 - Joint Leadership Council (JLC) meeting. VCOC JLC Rep General Wes Edwards presents the proposed VCOC Priority Legislative Objectives (PLOs) and represents VCOC in selecting the JLC PLOs from those nominated by the 23 Veteran Services Organizations (VSOs) of the Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Services Organizations.
August & September - VCOC Legislative Committee review and make recommendations to the VCOC Board on the proposed JLC PLOs. Committee Chair, Don Kaiserman, has already proposed options for the September Legislative Committee Meeting. The VCOC Board will consider and act on the Legislative Committee recommendations prior to the October JLC meeting.
6 Oct 2010 - JLC Meeting. The JLC will select and announce the final legislatie objectives and their priorities. Point Papers for each PLO should be published by JLC.
14 OCT 2010 - VCOC MEETING
Oct, Nov, Dec 2010 - Legislative Teams and Chapter Members meet with members of the Legislature and advocate for their support of the JLC PLOs. REMEMBER: WE SPEAK WITH ONE VOICE. We need to make our case before the General Assembly convenes.
Dec 9 - VCOC Legislative Committee Meeting @ Virginia War Memorial
Dec 17 - Governor's Budget to be Announced.
Dec 21 - JLC Meeting at American Legion in Richmond
12 Jan 2011 (2nd Wed of Jan) - The General Assembly (GA) convenes for a "short session." In odd number years the GA is scheduled to meet for 30 days and may extend the session for 16 additional days.
6 Jan 2011 - VCOC BOARD MEETING (date not announced)
13 Jan. The Joint Leadership Council (JLC) storms the General Assembly
