Prior Years Storming the State Capitol in Richmond
LAST YEAR - 22 JAN 2007
Agenda for 22 Jan 2007 VCOC MOAA Day at General AssemblyWord Document
2007 was the 10th year Virginia MOAA leaders visited the General Assembly to advocate for legislation supporting veterans, active, guard and reserve forces, military retirees and their families.  On Monday, January 22, 2007, some 50 MOAA leaders from around Virginia  met with the leaders of the Virginia General Assembly including Speaker of the House Bill Howell, Senate Majority Leader Walter Stosch, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, and House Majority Whip Kirk Cox as well as legislators with strong military affiliations - Senator  John Edwards, Delegates Scott Lingamfelter, and Mark Cole.  In addition, Virginia MOAA members were addressed by VA Attorney General Bob McDonnell, Congressman Eric Cantor and Commissioner of Veterans Services, Vince Burgess.  MOAA chapter members also visited their individual legislators at their offices.  State MOAA leaders met with Governor Tim Kaine.  This was a most successful Virginia MOAA Day at the General Assembly.

It passed the committee unanimously and was reported to the full Senate. Similarly, an identical bill was sponsored and presented by Delegate Kirk Cox to the Capital Outlay Sub-Committee of the House Appropriations Committee. It also passed the unanimously and reported out to the full House Appropriations Committee. It also passed the House of Delegates unanimously. This important issue for Virginia’s veterans then passed the full General Assembly. It provided $3.5 million of state money contingent upon the War Memorial Foundation raising $2million in private funding.
