MOAA leaders met with their state Delegates and Senators to address the legislative objectives of the Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Services Organizations (JLC), of which VCOC/MOAA  is an active member.

The VCOC President, Vice President and JLC Reps called on the Governor.

General Assembly Legislators addressing the visiting Virginia MOAA leaders:
Speaker of the House, William Howell,
House Majority Whip, Kirk Cox,
House Minority Caucus Leader, Brian Moran,
Senators John Edwards, Ralph Smith and Walter Stosch,
Delegates Mark Cole and Bill Janis.

MOAA's Director of Government Affairs, COL Steve Strobridge, USAF, Ret, participated.

Senator John Edwards recognized VCOC/MOAA from the floor of the Senate.
Delegate Kirk Cox recognized us from the house floor with these words:

"It is my privilege today to introduce the state leadership of the Military
Officers Association of America (MOAA).  MOAA members include military
officers on active duty, in the National Guard and Reserve Components,
veterans, retired officers and the spouses of deceased officers.  There are
some 375,000 MOAA members nationwide and more than 49,000 in Virginia.

Just as MOAA members served in leadership roles on active duty, they
continue to serve in leadership positions in veterans' organizations and on
many Virginia Boards and commissions that address veterans' issues.

Sixty MOAA Leaders are here today to support issues of concern to veterans
throughout the state.  They are supporting the legislative objectives
approved by the Joint Leadership Council.  The Commonwealth's 23 Veterans
Services Organizations, with a combined membership exceeding 225,000, are
represented on the Joint Leadership Council.   I am pleased to be the Chief
Patron for two of the Council's top seven legislative priorities.  I want to
take this opportunity to thank the many House members, from both sides of
the aisle, for co-patroning the bills that ensure proper care of wounded
Virginians and their families and establish an Education Center that will
give witness to their sacrifices that keep our nation free."

1st at right, is the coversheet, printed on light green paper to stand out, which Virginia Officers provided their legislators when visiting their offices.  A list of JLC objectives and associated bills was also provided, in an attempt to solicit co-patrons for relevant bills, especially HB475, Concerning Wounded Warriors Mental Health Program.

2nd, at right, is the pre-event news release about our 2008 Virgina MOAA Day at the General Assembly.  Title is MILITARY OFFICERS STORM STATE CAPITOL JANUARY 28TH.

After the event, a more comprehensive release was posted on VCOC MOAA website (now at top of this page) as well as photos.  Individual chapters of MOAA in Virginia are encouraged to insert their local chapter-specific info and submit to local civilian and military newspapers.  Also to post to their chapter website and use in their chapter newsletters.

Each of the documents are developed in Word Software.  If you need a plain text file, or have other special request, please contact the VCOC PAO.  Every attempt will be made to assist.
