| VIRGINIA WAR MEMORIAL - Education Wing |
The Virginia War Memorial, pictured here, has long been supported by Virginia MOAA Chapters, the VCOC, and the Joint Leadership Council (JLC), who worked tirelessly for both public and private funding. While the War memorial is located in Richmond, it is a state wide memorial.
The VCOC MOAA asked chapters to contribute to a Naming Opportunity fund raising initiative - to raise enough funds to name a room for Virginia MOAA.
Also, the VCOC donated money for a paving brick on the Walkway of Honor" the last quarter of 2009 and encourages chapters to do the same, so chapter pavers surround the VCOC MOAA paver.
VCOC Point of Contact for both fund-raising initiatives is VCOC's 1st VP and Legislaive Chair in 2010 & 2011, Col Don Kaiserman, USA, Ret.

WALKWAY OF HONOR - CHAPTER PAVER BRICKS -
Please see Council Crier, Dec 2009 edition, page 7. Cost of the paver brick is $250. Bricks have room for 3 lines with 14 characters per line. Spaces and punctuation marks count as characters. Mail form and payment to Col Don Kaiserman, so that he can coordinate placement of the chapter bricks around the VCOC brick. Col Kaiserman's address is included in the VCOC council Crier and in the contacts portion of (this) VCOC website.

STATUS ON NAMING OPPORTUNITY VIRGINIA WAR MEMORIAL
At the request of VCOC attendees at the March 2009 VCOC meeting, I asked Harry Warner (Director at VWM) to send to Chapter Presidents a listing of all MOAA Chapter / Individual contributions made to the VWM Education Center. As of 11 May 2009 there were no additional contributions made as a result of the cited mailing. Hence it appears VCOC has fallen short of hitting the $25,000 requirement for a "NAMING OPPORTUNIY". It a shame we missed this opportunity to leave a lasting
legacy to our VCOC, MOAA and our membership. I will attempt to see what I might be able to achieve in gaining some type of VCOC Naming so our contributions and efforts are not lost.
At a meeting with Del Kirk Cox, on 11 May 2009, related to a number of military legislative issues, Jon Hatfield (of the VWM) informed attendees that the construction plans for the Education Center were "on target" and construction was to start in August and be completed within 13 months and the Center to open in the Fall of 2010. Mr. Hatfield added that while construction costs were covered
by private funding and funding by the Virginia General Assembly, additional funding would be required to cover FF&E (Furniture, Fixture and Equipment) costs estimated at $500,000. VCOC MOAA members and Chapters may wish to consider making contributions to cover these added costs to make the Center operational.
Please indicate on your contribution YOUR NAME/CHAPTER NAME (and "MOAA Naming Opportunity" and request THE CONTRIBTION COVERS FF&E COSTS. Your contributions here might assist in my above cited "Naming" effort.
Submitted by Col Don Kaiserman (RAC/MOAA) Don is VCOC Alternate Rep to the Joint Leadership Council (JLC)
In 2010 & 2011, Col Kaiserman is also VCOC 1st VP and Legislative Chair
